Pregnancy and the fourth trimester is a profound time in a woman’s life.

 Mothers are under intense pressure to fall in love instantly, know everything about caring for an infant and maintain social standards that are unprecedented. Motherhood can be an amazing transition but for many, while many of us are grappling with challenges in secret.

Common symptoms of Perinatal Depression & Anxiety:

Depression during Pregnancy & Postpartum

Someone with PPD might experience feelings of anger, sadness, irritability, guilt, lack of interest in the baby, changes in eating and sleeping habits, trouble concentrating, thoughts of hopelessness, and sometimes-even thoughts of harming the baby or themselves.

Anxiety during Pregnancy & Postpartum

Someone with PPA may experience extreme worries and fears, often over the health and safety of the baby. Some people have panic attacks and might feel shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, a feeling of losing control, and numbness and tingling.

Pregnancy or Postpartum (OCD)

Someone with PPOCD can have repetitive, upsetting, and unwanted thoughts or mental images (obsessions), and sometimes they need to do certain things over and over (compulsions) to reduce the anxiety caused by those thoughts. These individuals find these thoughts very scary and unusual and are very unlikely to act on them.

Birth & Postpartum Therapy

Life’s transitions are stressful; moving from life as a single person to a parent can lead to confusion and doubt. Common reactions include fight, flight, or freeze causing us to feel stuck in the fog

Counseling can offer help to transition, recover, renew, and find acceptance in this new direction. Individual sessions are weekly or biweekly based on your needs and availability. Babies are welcome in session or to stay home and give the parent a break. Sessions are open for discussion combining telehealth and in-person according to what is best for mom and baby. My therapeutic style is to meet you where you are in your journey and learn about your life. We will discover your values, goals, and seek to understand your family and how to help you find your voice and connection with your new infant.

Postpartum Caregiver Support Group

Motherhood can feel overwhelming and isolating, our Postpartum Caregiver Support Group is here to help when the transition to motherhood feels overwhelming. This is a judgment-free, mother-to-mother support group for women experiencing depression, anxiety, or other mood disorders during pregnancy or the postpartum period.

The group is well-versed and specially trained in supporting perinatal mood challenges. Perinatal mood struggles are often best treated with a combination of medication, therapy, and group support. Come join us to share your experiences and feelings with a supportive community of peers. Meetings are open to all pregnant women and mothers. Babies under one year are welcome to come, but we ask that older children remain at home. Contact Katherine for the schedule.

We will discover your values, goals, parenting styles, and investigate ideas of behavior change and stability.
